Poliomyelitis virus found in New York sewage, local urges residents to get vaccinated

Rockland County reported a case of polio on July 21, the first in the United States in nearly 10 years. Polio, commonly known as polio, is an acute infectious disease caused by the polio virus.

Patients may experience symptoms such as fever, headache, muscle pain, vomiting, and in severe cases may become paralyzed or die. There is no cure for polio, and vaccination remains the most cost-effective method of prevention and control.Poliomyelitis Vaccine is heat sensitive and should be stored and transported at low temperature. The validity period is 2 years below -20°C; the validity period is 5 months at 2~8°C.

The polio virus was reportedly found in sewage samples collected in June, meaning the virus was present in the community before a case of polio was reported in Rockland County, N.Y., on July 21.In a statement, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) said the presence of the virus in sewage suggests that more people in the community may shed the virus in their feces.
